About the Item

A framed pair of Japanese silk sleeve bands, late 19th-early 20th century. Embroidered in silk with pine trees, cranes, peacocks, peahens, birds & butterflies. Provenance: Dr. Hugh McCormick Smith (1865-1941), world famous naturalist, medical doctor & ichthyologist, from one of his many trips to Japan beginning in 1903. Frame: 33 5/8" x 14 1/4" x 1 3/8" d.
