About the Item

One of the most outstanding pieces of ironwork we have ever seen, truly a one off spectacular mid-19th century iron overdoor, sourced from a Scottish estate this bespoke overdoor expertly combines both wrought and cast iron to the most incredible effect, a pair of fire breathing dragons flank the central head of a Sultan, pomegranate and flowers beneath, behind the head sits a single bulb holder which would have lit the entrance to what must have been a room of exceptional importance. Combining influences from the East and also of Scotland, this is quite likely the only one of these in existence, probably commissioned upon the return of a noble Grand Tour of the Far East. Created as an overdoor, this could easily be reinstated as a showstopper of an entrance piece, or it would also make the most exceptional lamp in the reception of an exclusive hotel, office or grand home. The light fitment has been fully rewired and tested. There are remnants of the old, original paint. Width 76 cm x Height 48 cm x Depth 23 cm
