About the Item

With large dimensions, this antique fireback was made during the 18th century. Against a background of architectural ruins, the arms of the town of Metz are featured: "mid silver and sand with a virgin for support", the latter supports holds a branch in her left hand. A beautiful fireback with rare and interesting iconography.
