Carved Stone Architectural Ornament, France Circa 1850

About the Item

Hand-carved in France, circa 1850, this unique limestone architectural is reminiscent of an antique reliquary. Its intricate design features a central niche flanked by volutes, above a bundled floral swag cascading over a gracefully curved demi-lune leaf. Curled leaves run alongside the ornament, culminating beneath a flowing foliate cup, while a second, downward-facing cup graces the molded entablature in between. Resting atop a 4 1/2-inch highly molded plinth, the piece stands 21 ½ inches tall with a beautiful patina, accentuated by a delicate moss accumulation, which adds subtle green accents to the gray stone. Our masterfully carved limestone architectural can be used as a garden ornament or used inside as a decorative sculpture anywhere in the home.
