Decorative 19th Century Wrought Iron Gate Panel

About the Item

A mid-19th century blacksmith-made wrought iron gate panel of scrolling design. Once painted white, the panel now has a beautifully weathered patina. Faint remnants of pale yellow paint remain around the edges with pops of blue paint showing on the circular adornments atop the finial tips. A few losses (as well as areas of rust) are present in the scrollwork, adding to the panel’s story. Although we’re not exactly sure how or where the panel was originally used, we think it would make an incredible statement piece at the end of a long hallway in a modern home. It would also make a wonderful climbing trellis in the garden. Found in Italy, the panel is substantial and heavy with a beautiful patina.
