Set of 4 English Arts & Crafts Glazed Floral Tiles
By Pilkington's Royal Lancastrian Pottery Company, Lewis Foreman Day
Located in Wormelow, Herefordshire
Four 6-inch English arts and crafts era glazed floral tiles, circa 1900, attributed to Lewis Foreman Day for Pilkington’s Tile and Pottery Co. It is well-known that while not all Pilkington's tile were signed, initial designs were marked with a single letter 'P' to the reverse. Several of his pottery works can be found in The British Museum and the V&A, including this tile of a similar design made for Pilkington’s at Clifton Junction dating to around 1900. Each decorated with a stylised red glazed flower among green leaves and vines on a rich dark blue backdrop, these four tiles together create a 62 cm square (24.5 inch) decorative panel, making a beautiful floral artwork piece for the walls of an interior. Alternatively, these antique English tiles...
