About the Item

A beautiful hand-carved white marble architectural element, likely a window or door lintel, salvaged from a building renovation project in France. Some motifs hint at the Beaux Arts style, but the expressive birds at either end of the piece are somewhat unusual, adding a bit of mystery and visual interest. On the back can be seen the remains of mortar, some mounting holes, and the etched lines and marks used by the sculptor to organize the carving process, these markings evidence of the hand of the artist. The lintel is in excellent condition, all decorative elements are complete with no chips or cracks. Quite a find in this condition - a compelling piece of history that could be adapted to sit over an interior doorway, frame a wall niche, or used as a unique shelf support.
