About the Item

A large antique Italian stone chimney piece frieze dating to circa 1800. Originally salvaged from a monumental scale fireplace, this frieze displays fine carving in relief depicting two putto holding foliate cornucopia amid flowering scrolls in an Italian renaissance style. The reverse side showcases its age of 225 years with a roughly worked surface. Full of possibilities, this striking and unusual piece would look impressive mounted to the wall in a contemporary space or incorporated into a chimney piece in modern and period settings alike.
