About the Item

Monumental 19th Century European Industrial Clock Face with Roman Numerals, 48" An extraordinary and boldly graphic 19th century European clock face, originally mounted on a public building—likely a train station, town hall, or church tower. Measuring an impressive 48 inches in diameter, this monumental piece was designed for visibility from a great distance and serves today as a striking sculptural statement. The face is crafted from riveted sheet metal, with a reinforced iron brace on the reverse, and features hand-painted Roman numerals in ochre-yellow against a deep matte black field, encircling a warm red central medallion. The paint surface shows beautifully aged wear, with oxidation, surface losses, and weathering consistent with long-term outdoor exposure, particularly around the XII numeral—adding to its authentic industrial character. The center bore hole remains intact where the clock hands were once mounted. Retaining its original finish and patina, this antique timepiece now functions as a dramatic wall decoration or could be repurposed with modern clockworks. A rare and evocative example of civic horology and 19th-century European metalwork. Dimensions: 48" diameter x 1.5" deep Origin: Europe, likely France or Germany Circa 1880–1910 Condition: Good distressed condition. Surface wear, oxidation, and paint loss consistent with age and outdoor use. Structurally sound and stable. Original iron brace intact on reverse.
