WWII Era U.S. Navy Cast Iron Ship Bell with Bracket

About the Item

WWII era classic Navy ship's bell cast in iron with raised lettering, "U.S.N." The bell features all its original components with a bracket for hanging. Bells during this period were cast in iron as a result of an emergency order from Washington limiting the use of bronze and brass to combat essentials. They were used to signal time or warnings and honor sailors during ceremony. This bell displays a nicely aged patina with remnants of red paint and is in good working order with an impressive ring. A fantastic piece of American history.
