About the Item
Odyssey Large Headrest by Eugeni Quitllet for BD Barcelona, 2022
A strong presence with pristine comfort. Inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, Eugeni Quitllet’s Odyssey armchair recalls a retro-futurism that gazes towards the stars.
Drawing from his creative idiosyncrasies, Quitllet merges Kubrick’s visual language with the soft luxury of smooth curves, a carved seat and a comfortable ergonomic shape. Available in multiple finishes, the Odyssey is adaptable, allowing a sitter to swivel and rock or lean back into two headrest options. It fits diverse needs and balances function and an astral form.
The Odyssey’s curves envelop the sitter, and its components almost float together, locking into an organic body that could fit in a home as much as a starship.

About the designer:
The work of Eugeni Quitllet is a synthesis of functional creativity and idiosyncratic wonder. Eugeni Quitllet was born in Ibiza in 1972. He moved to Barcelona after studying at Art School in the Balearic Islands and obtaining a Design and Interior Design diploma. Quitllet then met Philippe Stark and began working at his agency in Paris. Ten years later, after creating some of the most exciting designs of the early ‘00s, he opened his agency in Barcelona. His vision and future-forward designs are sleek and unique. He is now based in Dallas, where he continues using today's manufacturing to create his designs for tomorrow
About the manufacturer:
BD has been around for over half a century. It was founded in a nightclub in 1972 by a bunch of young architects and designers from Barcelona. They broke into the design world with a new vision: to produce and market their designs, and the designs of their friends with complete creative freedom and design criteria. Beginning with the designs of contemporaries like Ettore Sottsass, Rennie Mackintosh and Álvaro Siza, BD provoked a curiosity about design. These early pieces helped bring international recognition to the country’s design scene, and many of them still exist today.
They are an international design company run by a collective ownership —Apartamento Magazine (Nacho Alegre, Omar Sosa, Marco Velardi), Taller Bofill (Pablo Bofill, Ricardo Bofill, Luna Paiva, Hernán Cortés, Fernando de la Mata), and Igor Urdampilleta from Arquitectura-G— all architects, publishers and designers. Along with one of the founders, Oscar Tusquets, this group fosters the same nonconformist spirit BD has had since its beginnings. Their independence as a company fuels their intentions and supports this purpose. BD are now expanding their design dialogue to delve into diverse realms of creativity, in design and in everything they do.

Varius by Oscar Tusquets for BD Barcelona, 2022
The chair played yesterday and will play into tomorrow. Like a tuned Violin, Stradivarius. Its critical acclaim and commercial success kickstarted a new era of contemporary Spanish design. Loved for decades, the design is considered and remarkably adaptable. Stackable. Strong. Lasting. It stayed in tune. Based on the Stradivarius Violin but built to fit everywhere.
This chair was brought back for its new finishes and styles. It is staying because it has a character of its own, now fit for every floor. The Varius plays again.

About the designer:
Oscar Tusquets describes himself as an architect by training, a designer by adaptation, a painter by vocation, and a writer through the desire to make friends. Born in Barcelona in 1941, Oscar Tusquets graduated as an architect in 1965 from Barcelona’s Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura and was a member of Studi Per, together with Pep Bonet, Cristian Cirici, Lluís Clotet, and Mireia Riera. In 1972, they founded BD together, and Tusquets set about designing furniture and other objects, which would be recognised by the Spanish National Design Award.
A number of his pieces appear in renowned museum collections, such as the MoMA in New York and the Centre George Pompidou in Paris. He has also been honoured with the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes (Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts), the insignia of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of the Arts and Letters) and the Creu de Sant Jordi (Cross of Sant Jordi). Since the ‘90s, he has published books on a wide range of design-related topics.
