About the Item

With its unusual ironwork, this wrought iron gate is a beautiful design piece for gardens large and small. It pairs classic arched styling with unique details for a fusion of contemporary and period design. Dating from the late 20thcentury, this sturdy reclaimed garden gate is in good condition with existing hinge eyes. Old paint and light surface rust are the only sign of weathering. A simple lick of paint will bring this large antique wrought iron gate to life for a sophisticated modern garden. Gates and ironwork made from wrought iron have stood the test of time. This traditional method of craftsmanship sees the metal heated to a high temperature and then hammered into shape by a blacksmith’s hand, creating a robust and durable finish. The more wrought iron is worked, the stronger it becomes, making some of the most ornate antique gates some of the strongest. Large scale commercial production of wrought iron products ended in the mid 1970s due to the expensive and time-consuming nature of blacksmithing, making wrought iron gates true antiques, showcasing talented craftsmanship of the past.
