About the Item

18th century French Louis XV fireback with two pillars of Hercules decorated with flower pots and the arms of France. The date of production, 1780, is also cast in the fireback. This is the coat of arms of the House of Bourbon, an originally French royal house that became a major dynasty in Europe. It delivered kings for Spain (Navarra), France, both Sicilies and Parma. Bourbon kings ruled France from 1589 up to the French revolution as well some short periods thereafter. The coat of arms consists of a crown with three Fleurs de Lys (French Lilies, symbolizing royalty) and branches of the olive tree (symbolizing peace and victory) at both sides. The pillars of Hercules symbolize power as well as the unknown. This product weighs more than 65 kg / 143 lbs.
