About the Item
18th century French Louis XV period fireback with two pillars of Hercules topped with Fleurs de Lys and a floral decoration. The pillars stand for strength and the unknown. They refer to the club of Hercules. The Fleurs de Lys, or French Lillies, symbolize the purity of aristocracy. The date of production, 1783, is also cast in the fireback.
Made of cast iron. The fireback has a natural brown patina. Upon request it can be made black / pewter at no extra costs.
