19th Century French Rococo Pierced Spelter and Brass Adjustable Fireplace Fender

About the Item

Dress a hearth with this ornate antique fireplace fender. Crafted in France circa 1880, and built of spelter with brass accents, the piece features an elegant pierced gallery adorned with interlocking geometric motifs, flanked at either end by elaborately sculpted harvest arrangements. Each side is anchored by a richly detailed arrangement of harvest themed embellishments including wheat sheaves, fruit, and vegetables overflowing from woven baskets, symbols of abundance and prosperity. The scrolling Rococo-style bases are accented with acanthus leaves and a central brass cartouche, lending a regal flair to the design. Notably, the fender features an adjustable sliding mechanism that allows the central bar to extend or contract, accommodating various fireplace widths while preserving its decorative symmetry. A functional and decorative addition, this antique fender would serve as both a visual anchor and a protective barrier in front of a grand fireplace.
