Antique circa 1860 English Copper Coal Helmet Scuttle for Fireplaces Mantles

About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this lovely original hand hammered English circa 1860 copper and brass coal scuttle. This was called a helmet scuttle for obvious reasons, it looks like a Knights helmet. The body is made of hand hammered copper and the handles brass, the reason being the materials don’t absorb heat so it can in front of the fire and not get to hot to handle Condition is period, this was something that was used every day during the Victorian era right up until today, it is full of charm and patina, I guess you would class it as folk art. Dimensions Height:- 31 cm not including the handle Width:- 49 cm Depth:- 28 cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. CONDITION Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description pertaining to the condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of creasing and wear, we recommend annual waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade

We are delighted to offer for sale this extremely rare and very collectable, circa 1840-1860 Louis XVI style Saint Remy Marble fireplace. This fireplace is one of three I have purchased, they originate from Paris France, made in Saint Remy marble, there are two large mid-19th century examples and one extra-large 18th century piece. They came from a friend and colleague who specialises in architectural salvage from Chateaus Castles and generally places of distinction in Belgium, France, Switzerland and the surrounding areas The piece has been carefully transported and is in very fine order throughout, it breaks down into four easy to transport and install pieces as you can see in the pictures. The mantle top...
