About the Item
Late 18th or early 19th century French fireback with the goddess Diana. Goddess of hunting, also protector of animals of the forest, especially the young animals. She experienced great pleasure in hunting, but took care that she did not kill more animals than could be eaten. The fireback is from the Neoclassical period.
The fireback is made of cast iron and has a natural brown patina. Upon request it can be made black / pewter at no extra costs. The fireback is in a good condition for use in an open fireplace or as a backsplash. It has no cracks.
