Napoleon III Rocaille-Style Ormolu Bronze Fireplace Andirons

About the Item

Pair of gilt bronze andirons with rich rococo decoration such as acanthus leaves, pierced ova and exuberant scrollwork. They are topped by two majestic winged women. Andirons, or chenets, are decorative and practical objects placed in front of a fireplace to protect priceless rugs and flooring from rolling logs. Intricately detailed, these antique andirons in Rocaille style were crafted in the second half of the 19th century, circa 1860. Dimension: W 11.4 in, D 4.3in, H 18.9in. Dimension: L 29cm, P 11cm, H 48cm.
