The brass medallion has very intricate filigree cut design the cast iron is hammered, great looking antique fireplace andirons. Heavy cast iron marked " J Loth Stoves company of Waynesboro Virginia metalcrafters". Circa 1938. Made in USA. Virginia Metalcrafters. Very collectible, great patina. Heavy Pair of outstanding, Arts & Crafts, hand-forged cast iron marked :W. J. LOTH STOVES WAYNESBORO VIRGINIA. Same pair of art and craft cast iron antique andiron can be seen in one of the room at Doris Duke home in Newport, RI( see picture). Rough Point was the Newport home of heiress, collector, and philanthropist Doris Duke (1912-1993). Good antique condition restored, the brass has been polished. Dimensions each: 26" H. x 21" L. x 13" W. Brass medallions measure 8" in diameter. Virginia Metalcrafters began business in 1890, as the W.J. Loth Stove Company in Waynesboro, Virginia, and manufactured cast iron stoves and wood and coal heaters. In the 1890's frying pans, waffle irons, tea kettles and other cookware were added. In 1938, the company installed equipment for melting brass and other non-ferrous metals, selling them as Virginia Metalcrafters. In 1953 Charles Eckman purchased the company and formed Virginia Metalcrafters. The E.T. Caldwell Company and the Harvin Company of Baltimore, makers of decorative accessories and fireplace equipment were also added to VA Metalcrafters...
