19th century French Napoleon period fireback that symbolizes the French Revolution. On top of the pillar is a Phrygian cap. This is the cap of Marianne, a national symbol of France. She symbolizes the "Triumph of the Republic", freedom and reason.
The fireback is made of cast iron and has a black / pewter patina. The condition is good, it does not have cracks.
