Antique Regency Style Compact Cast Iron Fire Grate

About the Item

An antique Regency style compact cast iron fire grate with a gilt brass front. The shaped arched back plate is centred with a rosette, above a steel railed curved bar basket grate, which is supported by a pair of Egyptian sphinx on bracket feet. The polished steel shaped bars and tall fireback only add to its historical English unusual design, making it a stunning new element for a Georgian townhouse or country home. A floral design can be spotted at the top of the fireback, with further foliage patterns on its fret. Kenneth Neame Kenneth Neame began his career as an antiques dealer after studying architecture at Cambridge. His first shop was in Handel’s House in Brook Street, Mayfair, which soon became the destination for clients staying at Claridge’s. Handel’s House the business relocated to Mount Street in 1990, after over 30 years. Now, after seven decades of decorating and acquiring antiques, Neame closed his London business and sold his remaining stock and items from his London home in Cadogan Square.
