About the Item
Fireplace made of Campan rouge and griotte marble with strong veining, topped by a straight entablature featuring a projecting hood. The central panel is adorned with a bronze medallion depicting a seated female figure surrounded by children, flanked by two rectangular bronze reliefs showing playful scenes with children in a natural setting. All bronze elements are after models by Clodion. The slightly curved jambs frame an arched opening highlighted by sculpted marble moldings. This fireplace reflects the decorative vocabulary of the Louis XIV style, reinterpreted in the 19th century.
