About the Item

An elegant and most handsome Continental mid 19th century Directoire st. white Carrara and black Belgian marble mantel. This beautiful mantel is elevated by stepped Black Belgian marble pedestals on each side with a white Carrara marble front. The 'S' scrolled white Carrara marble front legs have a bottom mottled plinth with an elegant band, while the thicker protruding capital above displays a large scaled downward facing acanthus leaf. The black Belgian marble center of the mantel connects the two sides showcases a tastefully carved central reserve of a white Carrara marble smoldering urn. The urn is designed with a socle shaped base, fluted designs along the body, and displaying flames and smoke within. The fine and thick rectangular white Carrara marble top shelf has an impressive triple mottled edge.
