Copper Wall Panelling Cladding by Edit Oborzil, 1971 Art Object Panel

About the Item

Striking copper wall cladding designed by Edit Oborzil and Tibor Jeney, cca. 1968 for the Hotel Helikon - Balaton Keszthely, Hungary. Artistic rectangular copper wall tiles with an abstract sun motif in a concave, convex form or with a round recess in the centre. Dimensions of each element: height c. 20 cm, width c. 10 cm. The set includes a total of 198 individual elements. When assembled, they reach a height of c. 220 cm and a width of c. 180 cm. Each element has 8 holes on the side for mounting. The elements can be freely combined. Please note that the individual elements are disassembled. Edit Oborzil was born in Budapest in 1921 and died in 1996. During her studies she met her future husband, the craftsman Tibor Jeney. Their complementary work resulted in outstanding creations. After graduating from the Academy, Oborzil became a versatile artist. She was also commissioned to design the copper panels for the interior of the legendary Hotel Helikon at Lake Balaton in Hungary. The hotel interior was also designed by other renowned Hungarian artists of the 1960s and 1970s, including the painter Gabor (Gabriel) Szinte and the ceramist Janos (John) Majoros. The hotel was built in 1968-1971 and was the biggest investment of the socialist government. The Helikon Hotel in Keszthely opened its doors on 9 May 1971 and was considered the most elegant and modern hotel on Lake Balaton at that time. After the reunification of Germany and the resulting changes in Eastern Europe, the hotel remained in operation until 2016 before closing for renovation work. The owner had been a regular guest of the hotel himself in the 1990s and was able to witness the exceptional style and beauty of its interior. University of Fine Arts in 1952 and at this time that she met her husband, craftsman Tibor Jeney. Their complementary work resulted in outstanding creations. She started to work with her husband, craftsman Tibor Jeney, and swiched her interest towards Applied Arts. They began to work with metal surfaces, artistic machining of aluminum and copper. Embossed metal panels and copper tiles were made for wall covering and big radiator coverings. Works: Keszthely Helikon Hotel, Aero Hotel Budapest, Taverna Hotel Budapest, Facade of the Royal Hotel, some decorative elements of the Opera House. Helikon Hotel, Keszthely (1971) The hotel architecture of the second half of the 1960s was influenced by the excellent work of the designers and interior architects of the Budapest Intercontinental. Many, new artists worked on a fine and applied arts commission to decorate the hotel Helikon. The walls of some rooms were decorated with Oborzil Edit metal wall cladding elements combined with typically blue and green colored wallpapers.
