About the Item
An antique Regency Carrara Marble fireplace surround with square corner blocks, the cushion moulded jambs with quarter-round returns, all in strongly figured marble.
A model exhibiting the Regency preference for a shallower frieze and shelf than was typical in the Georgian period. The corner blockings show a transition towards designs typical to the William IV period with the rectilinear adaptation of the ubiquitous circular convex roundel.
