Architectural George III Fireplace Mantel in Carrara Marble

About the Item

An architecturally designed fireplace in "Old English" Carrara Marble. Somewhat in the manner of Sir John Soane. The plain pilasters and frieze with deep moulded in grounds, backing the three quarter tapering columns. Which are supported on solid marble foot blocks and socles capped with scrolled acanthus leaf and stop fluted capitals. These capitals in turn supporting large stepped under mouldings all beneath a simple rectangular mantel. A very good quality piece executed in solid marble components, late 18th or early 19th century. Opening 97 cm wide x 96.5 cm high.
