  • Antique French Nero Marquina Marble Fireplace Mantel, Circa 1880
    Located in Dallas, TX
    Featuring Louis XIV-style elements, this French fireplace mantel was hand-carved circa 1880 out of an elegant nero marquina marble. Quarried in the town of Marquina, in the Basque Country, this marble was quite popular during the 1800’s, often used as flooring and for fireplaces. The deep black stone has variegated white veining throughout, enhancing the beauty of the stone, which is magnified by the smoothly carved moldings. Most noticeably, the firebox opening has a luscious half-round border that is two inches thick. The feet are augmented by a six-inch thick protruding bolection and the lintel has several thin layers of molding.
