George III Breche Violette Marble Fire Mantel in Bolection Style

About the Item

A Breche Violette marble fire overmantel in the bolection style, dating from the late 18th century. Its large size indicates that it was likely once used in a main room, perhaps as a decorative marble mantel in the drawing room of a large property. Sourced from a country house in Shropshire in the heart of the UK, this antique marble fire mantel is creamy white in colour outlined with veins in purple shades, making for a striking design. Though this marble bolection fire mantel has lived for more than 200 years and has a slightly discoloured, time-worn appearance and discreet historical repair to the top, it is in good condition. The marble showcases a beautiful patina, decorated with a moulded frieze and jambs. This design is simply timeless bringing elegance to both modern and traditional settings alike.
