About the Item

Rare, decorative and practical 'slide-in' fireplace with dragonheads. Most of the 19th century and early 20th century mansions in Europe had fireplaces both in the living rooms downstairs and in the (larger) bedrooms upstairs. Most of the mantle pieces survived, but the actual wrought iron fire places that were in them have disappeared, because over the decades they got replaced by new kinds of heating. This hand-crafted and stylish fireplace from the Arts and Crafts era was adjusted slightly, because it was used as a gas heater for a long time, hence the wrought iron circles in the rack where the burners were. The stylized dragon sculptures on either side of this beautifully designed and hand-forged fireplace are an absolute joy to own and look at and they too will never fail to impress. If you have recently purchased a home with a mantle piece but without the actual fireplace and ash then this wonderful, unique and practical antique specimen could be perfect for you.
