About the Item

An Interesting and Rare Late 19th Century Gilt Bronze Mounted Giallo di Siena Marble Fireplace The moulded marble mantle shelf above a intricately carved central frieze with scrolling vines and centered with a circular pendant, the legs with bronze flowing laurel leaves, berries and foliage standing on a matching hearth. A floral designed patinated cast iron insert along with a gilt iron fireback of a courting couple reading and playing music. Giallo di Siena marble is a quintessential stone of the Italian Renaissance and has been used to adorn palaces, cathedrals, and opulent villas for centuries. Its rich colors and delicate veining make it highly prized, and it was once widely used for religious decorations, furnishings, and precious jewelry. The marble’s golden yellow appearance can make a space appear more wealthy, prosperous, posh, and airy.
