Large Polished Brass Full-Register by Longden of Sheffield

About the Item

A large polished brass full-register grate by Longden of Sheffield. This generously proportioned full-front register grate is made by and stamped Longden of Sheffield. The exceptionally wide fire basket constructed from wrought-iron, suspended on spheres and flanked by brass engraved hob-fronts, sits over a highly decorative pierced fret adorned with oval paterae and beaded moulding. The plinthed brass fire surround also features bead moulding with central engraved plaque and roundel details. Maker’s stamp to underside of front fire bar. Restoration includes steel re-inforcements to the rear fire enclosure for a robust burning area. Restored. Circa 1850.
