Louis XIV Style Carved Limestone Fireplace Mantel from the South of France
About the Item
This fireplace mantel from the South of France has been hand-carved from seven pieces of Estaillade limestone in the style of Louis XIV. The stones have a gray hue, with cream and white accents, allowing the fireplace to be paired with just about any interior design palette. Two supple S-curve legs with shallow plinth feet offer stability to the thick lintel. A thin quarter-round chamfer adorns the outer edges of both the legs and the lintel, adding subtle nuances to the elegant mantel. Our Louis XIV-style carved limestone mantel can be installed wherever a fireplace is needed, such as a bedroom, den, or living room.
The firebox opening measures 35 ½ H x 39 W.

Located in Dallas, TX
This beautiful antique French fireplace mantel was carved in stone during the late 18th century. It’s quite an unusual example in that falls into the transitional style of Louis XV and XVI. This was a short period of time in the 1700s when the opulent rocaille forms were transitioning into the Neoclassical of Louis XVI. The fireplace has an impressive, deep stance, with a slightly bowed or “galbee” lintel. The bottom of the lintel is composed of a series of rounded and incurved moldings, shaped in the classic crossbow or serpentine form that was so popular in the early to mid-1700s. What makes this piece stand out from other French Louis XV mantels...
