Louis XV Style Marble Fireplace
About the Item
This Louis XV style mantel was realized at the end of the 19th century and is remarkable for its large size and the intensity of the marble. Its carved decoration in the very fine Fleur de Pêcher marble, whose rich veining energizes the object, contributes to its originality. It is composed of a beautiful leafy shell that adorns the center of the serpentine-shaped entablature, which is itself highlighted by an oblong molding. At its ends are sculpted elements of Ionic columns, notably the scrolled capitals. The movement of the form is accentuated by the grooved marble jambs and the moving top. The thickness of the band in the center of the shell is 18cm. The thickness of the legs is 16 cm.
