About the Item

Antique oak wood fireplace inspired by the fireplace in the Hercules Salon in Versailles Palace. This antique Regence style fireplace was made out of carved oak wood in the late 19th century. The famous fireplace sitting in the Hercules Salon in the Versailles Palace is the original inspiration for the lower part of our fireplace. Above, Hercules' head on the frieze center is topped by the skin of the Nemean lion. On both sides are also carved in high-relief two cornucopias, represented with flowers and fruits patterns. The overmantel is finely carved as a frame for an Aubusson tapestry made by the Manufacture Hamot. The colorful tapestry is crowned by a semicircular arch, accompanied by cariatids, foliage, flowers and friezes.
