NYC Waldorf Astoria Hotel Marble Mantel Suite 13K Neoclassical Verde Antico

About the Item

This small-scale English Regency style mantel is carved from white statuary marble inlaid with Verde Antico. This rich green inlay runs the length of the jambs and across the apron, framing three urn motifs carved in white. The center motif depicts an urn with floral elements in a sunken relief and is complimented by oval urn motifs above the jambs that are carved in the same manner. The shelf on this mantel is 1--1/4" thick, and the edges of the shelf are carved with two simple horizontal grooves. This simple and elegant detail corresponds with the single modest groove carved along the face of the trim pieces below the shelf. This antique mantel was one of several pieces imported from Europe to furnish the historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC, which opened on October 1, 1931. This mantel is original to suite K on the 13th floor of the hotel. The original installation necessitated brick extensions at the rear of the mantel. The shelf can be reduced from its original size, to fit the actual fireplace surround at 53 in. L x 6 in. W. The original hearthstone is beige Crema Marfil marble and a Waldorf Astoria authenticity card is included with your purchase. Pictured still installed at the Waldorf Astoria, kindly request the reclaimed condition before purchasing. Please note, this item is located in our Scranton, PA location.
