A Queen Anne Frame Chimneypiece in Cork Marble, ex-Howth Castle

About the Item

An elegant Irish frame from the early 18th century carved in Churchtown Cork marble. This simple frame is formed of undecorated header and jambs which exhibit a precise step to the outer edge and a delicate moulding to the inner edge. The moulding on the header underside edge follows an extremely gentle curve softening the opening. Howth Castle resides in County Dublin, Ireland, and is ancestral home of the St Lawrence family. The area has been held by this family, and a dwelling existing on this site, since the Norman invasion.
