About the Item

A tall and boldly carved, columned walnut trumeau fireplace in the Renaissance style. The upper frieze, with a central cartouche flanked by floral scrolls, is set above the main frieze upon which is carved, in high relief, a fire breathing salamander, the heraldic beast of Francois I of France and the symbol of survival. The tall, simple panelled trumeau has a large moulded cornice. French, mid-19th century. (Price and vat in EU zone).
