About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this absolutely sublime quality original Victorian circa 1860 Scottish Fireplace Club Fender with wrought iron frame and oxblood leather seat in the manner of Sir Robert Lorimer This has to be the most perfect fender I have ever seen, the height is 100% perfect, the ideal height for a low stool, most other fenders are to low to sit on so you have to have a chair by the side and you can only rest your feet, this is a full on bench seat meaning you can hop on and off with ease The leather is oxblood colour, its very rich and warm. The frame is ornately crafter in wrought iron and looks important, expensive and well made from any angle We have cleaned waxed and polished it from top to bottom, you will be hard pressed to find a better example anywhere It as mentioned in the manner of Sir Robert Lorimer, it could very well have been made by him however his pieces weren’t stamped. Sir Robert Stodart Lorimer, KBE (4 November 1864 – 13 September 1929) was a prolific Scottish architect and furniture designer noted for his sensitive restorations of historic houses and castles, for new work in Scots Baronial and Gothic Revival styles, and for promotion of the Arts and Crafts movement Dimensions: Height 60cm Width 153cm Depth 65cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
