A William IV Irish Blue Limestone Chimneypiece

About the Item

A Regency chimneypiece carved entirely in Blue Limestone. This piece has many unusual and playful features. Fielded panels adorning the jambs stall upon meeting the sturdy footblocks. Exaggerated and reeded corbels, which curiously kick out at their base, support a gently curved and bullnosed shelf. The piece is finished with a barrel frieze resembling tightly furled parchment.
