About the Item

A set of 12 reclaimed glazed encaustic floor tiles by W Godwin, Lugwardine. Dating from the late 19th century, these reclaimed floor tiles are of Pugin style in vibrant white and yellow with a moody black background, perfect for use as an entranceway floor or fireplace hearth in a period cottage or Victorian era property. The set showcases a repeating pattern of stylised star and diamond shapes. These reclaimed tiles have been in use for over 100 years and as such have a characterful look that enhances the beauty of their striking pattern with an exceptionally clean finish. Godwin Tiles William Godwin began manufacturing quarry tiles, bricks and drainpipes at his factory in Lugwardine, Herefordshire in 1851. In later years, William went into partnership with his son and traded as ‘Godwin & Co’, a name that would become reputable until long after William’s death in 1925. Each tile 15cm x 15cm square, 2cm (0.79in) deep. Overall dimensions are for the tiles combined. The tiles are unsigned.

    Good structural condition. There are four tiles with small chips, but the rest are exceptionally clean. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor Losses, scuffs, and scratches.
