About the Item

A set of five terracotta encaustic tiles by W Godwin, Lugwardine. These 4 inch tiles depict unglazed fleur de lys floral green patterns with a black background. These reclaimed tiles have been in use for over 160 years and as such have a characterful look that enhances the beauty of their striking pattern with an exceptionally clean finish. Godwin Tiles William Godwin began manufacturing quarry tiles, bricks and drainpipes at his factory in Lugwardine, Herefordshire in 1851. In later years, William went into partnership with his son and traded as ‘Godwin & Co’, a name that would become reputable until long after William’s death in 1925.
