18th Century French Louis XV Carved Walnut and Pewter Fountain Lavabo on Stand

About the Item

This elegant, antique fountain was crafted in Lyon, France, circa 1780. In the past, this kind of lavabos was actually used for hand washing. This water fountain is made of pewter with bronze faucets, and rests on its original carved fruitwood stand with cabriole legs embellished with hoof feet and acanthus leaves. The piece has a large carved shell motif at the top with delicate, decorative carvings on the sides and over the scalloped apron. The fountain is in excellent condition and has a rich walnut patina. Use this piece as a planter in your entry or breakfast room. Measures: 23" W x 17" D x 77" H.
