About the Item

A must-have for any animal lover, this pair of cast iron horse head fountain elements dates to around the 1940s. These French horse heads have been painted white, but some areas feature a wonderful brown, black, and orange patination. Both animals have thick, wavy manes cresting from their muscular necks. The horses can be used as fountain elements, with the water cascading from their open mouths. A bracket beneath the shallow oval plinth allows the horse heads to be mounted on a wall, positioned above a pool or fountain basin. They would also make wonderful architectural attachments to the side of a barn or ranch house or even as decorative accessories for a mantel or bookshelf.

Carved Limestone Horsehead from Italy
Located in Dallas, TX
Hand-carved by an Italian stone mason, this quaint limestone horsehead has excellent proportions. The contour of the cheek, the thick mane, and the slightly open mouth give the head a sense of realism. Carved with amazing precision, the horse can stand upright (face up) without the aid of a stand. Of course, it can also be hung on a wall in the proper orientation. Decorative horse heads of this size were often seen hanging on the exterior wall of a horse barn.
