Antique Rattan / Stick Wicker Arm Chair in Natural Finish with Colored Trim

About the Item

An Antique, handsome and stylish Rattan Arm Chair in natural finish with colored trim, American,C. 1929. This style of furniture was also often called stick wicker or split reed. Modernist stick wicker was all the rage at this point, consumers tastes were changing to less formal or fussy styling and Art Moderne was the theme for architecture, housing and interiors. Rattan furniture was copying the designs that were already being used for wooden furnishings and so this geometric and sleekly designed rattan fit the bill! This design also was a life saver temporarily for the wicker furniture industry as it was less expensive to make then the elaborate hand woven designs of the past.Unfortunately, although still being made for a time past the 1920s the depression slowed down the middle-class consumer from affording this extra luxury and the wicker industry suffered tremendously. This rattan arm chair is in excellent condition done in a natural finish with colored trims of Black, Sienna and Green which add dramatic accent coloring to the chairs wrapping. It measures 32" Ht. x 32" D. x 32" W. with a seat height of 18". In addition it is freshly upholstered in green Sunbrella all weather fabric and includes a small toss pillow in the same fabric ! A great looking comfortable chair ready to be enjoyed in any room in the house especially your Sunroom or covered out door porch! Please see complimentary rattan chair from the same estate in our listings.
