Japan, an authentic and handsome small "Oribe" influenced granite stone lantern, carved from solid granite stone, three pieces (includes the base with feet, round firebox, and top),nice patina from age, Showa period (1940-1960), 20" high and 20" diameter. This scarce size and style lantern would make an ideal choice for an intimate installation. History of "Oribe" lantern style: The 16th century samurai warrior and tea master of Japanese tea ceremony, Future Oribe, was taught this ritual ceremony by none other than Sen no Rikyū. He became the foremost tea master in the land after Rikyū's death, and taught this art to the shōgun. The kind of tea ceremony he established is known as Oribe-ryū and the style of ceramics that are attributed to his artistic influence are known as Oribe-yaki. He also designed a style of stone lantern (tōrō) for the roji tea garden, and it has come to be known as Oribe-dōrō.
