About the Item

In Asian culture, the lion-like guardian lion or foo dog is a symbol of protection and guardianship. Beautifully carved into sandstone, this large pair of foo dog statues once flanked a great doorway. Associated with power and prosperity, detailed statues like these were often only reserved for Asian temples, royal palaces and the wealthiest of families. Foo Dog Statues Referred to as “Foo dogs” or “Fu dogs” in western culture, these statues are an impressive addition to gardens and grounds inspired by oriental styles. More than 100 years old, the finely carved details remain in excellent condition with a weathered surface finish from exposure to the elements through the ages. Additional Information Dimensions stated are for each foo dog statue. By removing the block at the back, the depth could be reduced to 57cm to fit into a narrower setting.
