Scagliola panel, Flowers And Birds Decor, Late 19th Early 20th Century
About the Item
Scagliola panel decorated with multicoloured flowers and leaves and a parrot in the centre, on a black background
Scagliola technique, already known in antiquity, consists mainly of making trays imitating marble or marble marquetry.
It was also created to compete with the workshops of Florence, undisputed specialists in marble work.
On a tray are first engraved patterns then filled with pigmented coatings. Once polished, its smooth and shiny appearance is reminiscent of marble
