About the Item

A very decorative and unusual Arts & Crafts antique oak pedestal. The moulded square top is set above four carved panelled sides raised on a moulded plinth base. Each panel has a figure carved in high relief representing the four seasons of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Provenance: Originally from Ravensby Hall in Carnoustie, Angus, Scotland, circa 1900. Notes: Ravensby Hall, with its turrets, bays and gables, built in the 1870s for The Thomson family of Dundee, is an elegant country house incorporating both Gothic and Scottish Baronial styles. The Thomson family had acquired their wealth through the 19th century and Ravensby Hall was intended as their country retreat, befitting a family of their status in Scottish society.
