French Cherry Wood Pedestal Table with Bronze Plaques of Female Muses, c. 1900
About the Item
Standing at 43.25 inches in height, this French cherry wood pedestal or sculpture stand from the turn of the twentieth century features four bronze plaques of female figures representing the muses of sculpture, painting, music, and philosophy. The 13.5 inch square beveled top is trimmed with a bronze rais-de-coeur pattern border. The corners of the apron are detailed with classic flaming torches surrounded by laurel wreath crowns. The top rests on tapered legs with fluted corners additionally detailed with bronze plaques of bouquets of flowers. A lower shelf joins the legs and provides additional display space. A handsome pedestal with a classical design, this piece would be ideal for displaying a sculpture or as a plant stand. circa 1900.
