About

MALACHITE ON WALNUT & ALUMINUM BASE Eight stunning green pillars of pure malachite stand with two of lapis lazuli separating the nave from the sanctuary in the gold-domed St. Isaac’s Cathedral in St. Petersburg Russia. Mined from the Ural Mountains in the 19th century, Russian malachite was highly prized throughout Europe. An entire room of malachite adorns the Winter Palace. Carl Fabergé used it for his famous carvings. And, in Italy, it was used to ward off the evil eye. In Studio Greytak’s Malachite on walnut and aluminium base, an amazing piece of malachite sits atop an equally stunning base of aluminium and claro walnut. This powerful metaphysical combination not only brightens a room but protects it as well. Malachite, from the Greek word for “mallow” because of its leaf-like color, is found in the altered zones of copper deposits all over the world. Possibly the earliest ore of copper, it has been called one of the most important minerals in the history of humankind. In 4000 BC, it was discovered that heating malachite over a hot fire reduced it to native copper, and metallurgy was born. Malachite is one of the strongest stones for protection against negative energy. It also enhances willpower and strengthens our ability to take action on our thoughts and ideas. Malachite carries the frequency of the enlightened leader and reminds us of our power to manifest with the Universe. When the Spaniards settled California, they brought seedlings of walnuts from Mexico to plant as a food source and shade tree for their missionaries. “Claro” is a Spanish word meaning “bright” or “light,” most likely referring to the sapwood, which is nearly white although the heartwood is a distinctive café au lait color. Woodworkers love claro walnut, especially for larger pieces, because it can be found in slabs up to four feet thick. Many designers are familiar with the wild patterns of the wood from the work of George Nakashima, who used it in many of his pieces. Highly sought after but limited in supply, claro is also commercially critical as it is a vital rootstock for walnut orchards. Energetically, claro walnut is associated with inner peace. It is an introspective wood that also helps block out negative energies. Aluminium is a chemical element found in the earth’s crust. As a metal, it has only been known in modern times. The ancient world used alum, an aluminium-based salt, extensively. When wood was treated with an alum solution, it became flame resistant, a technique that saved many a city from attack. From the 16th century onwards, alum was used in Europe as a tanning agent, and for various medical uses. The metal was crudely created in 1824 by a Danish physicist and used by Napoleon Bonaparte in medals and a crown for Prince Louis Napoleon. In 1886, scientists discovered an easier process to release the metal. That process opened the door for the aluminum industry. Energetically, aluminum deflects others’ energy and protects the wearer. It calms nervousness, guilt, and fear. It helps one speak the truth and find life purpose. Physically, it aids in the metabolic process and calms over-acidic conditions in the stomach. It supports the absorption of iron in the intestines and helps with weakness and even paralysis. Place this piece where bold decisions, creative ideas, and intimate truths will flourish, protected from negative energy and connected to the manifesting power of the universe. MATERIALS Malachite Aluminum Claro Walnut.
